Diverse Arctic program and "Model Arctic Council" course
We are have a pleasure to invite you, students to take part in the spring semester program “Diverse Arctic: Local Challenges – Global Changes” starting from February 2014 at Northern (Arctic) Federal University.
The program includes following courses:
- Crossing the Borders: Changes and Challenges of the Russian Politics in the Arctic (1990s-2000s), 10 ECTS.
- Society, Diversity and Human Development in the High North, 10 ECTS.
- The Arctic as an Art object, 10 ECTS.
Students will attend lectures and seminars, make presentations and group or individual (research) projects, take part in workshops, screening sessions and excursions.

The Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities: a standard room (for 1 person) and a large room (for 2 persons), shared kitchen (for 5-10 persons) and bathroom (for 2 persons). Room and kitchen are furnished. Wi-Fi is available.
Cost of on-campus housing:
- 2918 RUB (approx. $95) per person/month (standard room for 1 person)
- 1459 RUB (approx.$ 47) per person/month (large room for 2 persons)

We also would like to invite the Master and PhD students to take part in the course "Model Arctic Council" on February 24-28, 2014 in Arkhangelsk (Russia).
Students from different countries will gather to replicate the Arctic Council work and discuss the most pressing issues in the Arctic region. The students will explore and have discussions around the topics of vital importance to the Arctic and then present these issue from different stakeholders' positions in a face-to-face setting which will be organized during a role-play course "Model Arctic Council".
Before the face-to-face meeting in Arkhangelsk, the students will be expected to work with literature and to write down their position papers, which will be discussed during the sessions and evaluated by the experts. After the meeting in Arkhangelsk, the participants are expected to submit course papers. Winter school participant will be given 5 ECTS after the course completion
Registered participants are expected to cover their costs for travelling and accommodation.
