Survival Czech Course

Free course offered to Erasmus students

This is a short four days' course organized during the orientation week. It's intended for real beginners to teach them basic phrases, to let them understand regards, requests, formulate simple questions used in an everyday contact with Czech people.

To participate in the Survival Czech Course students have to register in advance, a registration form is sent to all students.

Participants of the survival course are offered to continue in a semester course.

Czech Language Course

Palacký University offers to Erasmus students a Course of Czech for Foreigners during the academic year for free. The course starts at the beginning of each semester. Students are divided into courses according to their knowledge. To evaluate your knowledge and to assign you to a course on an appropriate level, you will be asked to write a placement test.  There are always courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced learners. Students who regularly attend the course, fulfill academic requirements and pass a final exam are granted 5 credits for the semester course.

Up-to-date information regarding placement test, teachers, classrooms etc. is provided during the orientation week.

Apart of Czech courses specially designed for Erasmus exchange students, there are tailor-made Czech courses for prospective international students organized by the Centre of Distance Learning of the Faculty of Arts.

Czech for Foreigners

The courses of Czech language for foreigners are organized by the Department of the Distance Learning, which is a part of the Faculty of Arts. The Department of Czech Studies guarantees professional Czech language education for foreigners at Palacky University; a field guarantee: Mgr. Darina Hradilová, PhD. (darina.hradilova@upol.cz). The courses are taught in English, German, Russian and Czech languages. The Department is able to offer you a large variety of courses according to your specific demands. The Basic Czech Course aims to quickly provide a communicative competence in Czech. You will be provided with textbooks and other teaching materials. At the end of your course you can take a Certificate Exam specifying the level of your knowledge at levels recognised within the EU. You´ll also get University certificate of graduation of life – long learning programme. 

One year Intensive Language Course for students intending to study at Palacky University

The lessons and the cost are shared among 4–8 students if they apply together for the same level of course. The Course is suitable for complete Beginners, ”False“ beginners, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced students.

Summer School of Slavonic Languages

Duration: 4 weeks/2 weeks (July-August)

Program Overview
The Summer School of Slavonic Languages focuses on developing Czech language skills and cultural immersion into the Czech culture by providing intensive Czech language courses with a focus on literature, history and culture (fine arts, music, etc.) The academic program offers numerous experiential workshops such as theatre workshop led by local actors, folklore dances, as well as extracurricular activities such as film screenings, social events and many more engaging activities.
The course is designed for a wide range of participants: foreigners living in the Czech Republic, international students of the Czech language and literature or Slavonic studies, as well as scholars, translators, journalists, and anybody interested in the Czech language, literature, history, and culture. The curriculum is tailored to the needs of the participants. All language courses are taught in several levels and there is a possibility of a customized program based on the individual's preference of topic-based courses and the preferred length of the program (i.e. 2 or 4 weeks). Moreover, the participants can choose to develop other Slavonic languages such as: Russian and Polish. After the completion of the course, participants will receive Certificate of Palacký University.
Field trips
are an academic part of the program. Participants will have a chance to visit culturally important sites in the Czech Republic during the weekend and one-day trips.
Scholarship and discounts available:

Participants can apply for a scholarships awarded by the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic by contacting the Czech Embassy in their home country.  Discounts are available also for early-bird registration.
