General information

The Department of Applied Economics (DAE) was established in 1998 as the Applied Economics Division, in order to provide education in Economy at the Philosophical Faculty. In 2005 the department accredited a Bachelor’s and subsequently a Master’s programme in Applied Economy, which became the first degree in Economics in the history of the Palacky University.

DAE offers Bachelor’s and continuing Master’s joint degree programmes in Applied Economics.

DAE degree programmes are characterized by:

Focus on practical skills
The curriculum incorporates professional internships in both Czech and foreign companies – the topics of diploma theses are chosen according to the requirements of our partner organizations and companies in the region – courses taught by expert professionals – possibility to enrol in the international organization AIESEC.

Progressive teaching methods
Well-equipped classrooms with laptops available for students to borrow – ICT and social networks used in the classroom – learning via the Second Life virtual interface – soft skills courses – possibility to prepare complex business plans – courses focused on project management – possibility to take part in grant projects at the Philosophical Faculty and other institutions – collaboration with the Science and Technology Park at the Palacky University and the Business Incubator.

Teaching in line with existing knowledge on an international level
Courses taught in English by foreign experts – a wide range of academic internships at universities abroad with many possibilities for funding – courses in line with existing research and trends in science – skill-focused tutorials motivate students to pursue their own scientific research – students are encouraged to take part in international conferences and publish their work in academic journals.

DAE also participates in teaching the following philology degree programmes focusing on applied economics and economic practice:

DAE PhF UP coordinates a project jointly financed by the European Social Fund and the Government of the Czech Republic entitled Innovation in the Teaching of Courses in Economics at the Palacky University and the Link to Professional Practice, CZ.1./07/2.2.00/28.0027.
